Dear Dr. Mom,

An interesting area of alternative medicine that is advancing rapidly is mercury detox treatment.  Mercury is toxic to humans.  We can be exposed to mercury in a number of ways, including the silver fillings in our teeth, ammunition, artificial flowers and wood preservatives.

Essential Ingredients:

  • Acidophilus Sachets containing a specific strain of 125 billion organisms.
  • Guiness Stout beer or any other dark beer (Guiness is the one proven to work).
  • White Vinegar
  • Basin big enough for your feet or hands
  • Time
  • Persistence and Consistency

Natural Toenail Fungus Treatment Procedure:

  • In tub, pour 1 liter of room temperature beer into a basin
  • Add 1/2 a sachet which is 60 billion acidophilus and other strains.
  • Add 1 liter of White vinegar

A growing number of people suffer the pain and discomfort of heartburn or reflux on a regular basis. It has been estimated that up to twenty percent of the population are affected at least once a week. Acid reflux and heartburn occur when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) allows the acid content of the stomach to flow back up into the esophagus. The esophagus is a tube like structure that connects the mouth and throat to the stomach. The LES is a valve which naturally protects the delicate esophagus from harmful acids. It is almost like a trapdoor, which opens up to allow the food we eat to enter the gut. Hydrochloric acid is then produced by the body to help break these substances down.

When heartburn or acid reflux strikes it is an indication of the LES temporarily relaxing, or in more serious cases, of it not functioning properly. If a person suffers from more regular or even constant heartburn and reflux, it may be a symptom of a far more serious condition called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease.) To achieve optimum health, eat a sensible, balanced diet and try not to consume too much food in one sitting. Meals that contain carbohydrates, meat, processed foods, sugar and fats can aggravate the causes of heartburn and reflux. Eat slowly and make sure that you chew each mouthful properly. Undigested food will often create excess acid in the stomach, producing gases that can put pressure on a weakened LES and result in a painful bout of heartburn or reflux. As with all medical conditions, treating the cause rather than the symptom is the most logical way to control the discomfort of acid reflux and heartburn.

There are many herbs to cure skin rashes and irritations, so I thought I’d take a moment to share some of my favorite skin treatments.

First, let me remind you that the best overall skin care product you can use is olive oil.  Weather you suffer from dry or itchy skin, or just wish to improve the appearance and texture of your skin, you would be hard pressed to do better than pure, extra virgin olive oil.  This can be applied straight from the bottle, and can be used on any part of the skin including the face.

The curative properties of Olive Oil, both internal and external are nothing short of miraculous and I would like to share with you a recent experience that serves as a reminder to me how some of the most common elements surrounding us often remain overlooked.

There is an After-Shower Oil that is extremely simple to prepare and is an excellent curative for virtually any skin irritation including eczema and psoriasis.

After-Shower Oil:
Please remember that while a lesser grade of olive oil can be used for everyday purposes, if you are attempting to treat a serious skin condition, the extra virgin is made from the first press of the olive and retains the most important curative properties that you are searching for.

Blend the oils together, and if desired, add several drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance.  This can be applied to the skin at any time.  For all-over skin conditioning, apply the oil immediately after your bath or shower, then pat dry.  A special note for women who shave their legs:  This oil treatment will completely eliminate any itching or dry flaking skin after shaving.  It is simply the best after-bath oil you will ever try.

Another oil that has fantastic properties for the skin is coconut oil. This oil is solid at room temperature and is liquid at body temperature. It is good for all over. It smells wonderful and feels wonderful and it tastes good too. You could get quite hooked on using it.

Behind the scenes: Bacteria. Everyone has a variety of bacteria in their mouth. Some have more than others. This bacterium helps you by beginning the digestive process.

Excess bacteria in your mouth has now been found to cause more than tooth decay, gingivitis or gum disease. So, you need to know, even though you might not have gingivitis, how to control these plaque-building bacteria in your mouth.

Bacteria that create gingivitis live in the plaque in your mouth and cause your gums to inflame, bleed, and separate from your teeth. These bacteria thrive in an acidic environment which acid builds up if you do not brush often or drink water and rinse your mouth when you do so. Water can alkalize the environment in your mouth and this discourages the gingivitis bacteria to a small degree. If you drink enough water your saliva will be thin and easy to swallow and your teeth will feel cleaner to your tongue. If you do not drink enough water the environment in your mouth gets acidic, the gingivitis bacteria (and other cooties) thrive and your saliva becomes thick and your tongue gets coated with plaque as well. If herbs and leaves are not in powder form, grind them in a coffee grinder. Use this formula to make as much powder as you want.

Place the mixture into a small container or use a small-unused vitamin bottle.

Mix a small amount and use a tablespoon as a measuring tool. For example, 2 tablespoons of white oak, 1 tablespoon of myrrh gum, ¾ tablespoon of peppermint leaves, and so on. The measurements do not have to be so precise.

How to use it:

To control bacteria in your mouth, use this power once a week. If you have gingivitis, you can use this 3 times a day. Place some powder on your toothbrush and brush your teeth and gums. After brushing spit out the saliva and residue powder a few times . Don’t rinse out your mouth since you want to keep the active herb powders in your month. You can swallow any that remains in your mouth with no problem.

This powder combination is bitter, but quite powerful and will get the job done. You can add more peppermint powder to make it less bitter, if you like.

For severe cases of gingivitis and toothaches, you can also moisten some powder with distilled water and then place the paste all along the your teeth and gums – front and back. Leave the paste in your mouth as long as you can. Don’t worry about the herbs getting in between your teeth. This remedy works.

A friend was scheduled for a root canal and a few weeks before the procedure, the tooth started paining. So she used this remedy. She just placed the powers around the painful area. It wasn’t long before the pain stopped and she was able to go to sleep.
